The best way to make money in Persona 5 Royal doesn't involve jobs or farming enemies. Instead, there's a tried and true exploit you can employ on just one foe — over and over again. It's the perfect way to make lots of yen and create those high-level Personas down the line. Although it's a bit of a mindless endeavor… If at all possible, we recommend settling in for the long haul when farming money in Persona 5 Royal, and having a book to read or something. I recommend Delicious in Dungeon; it's very good.

You can start farming money very early in the game. However, this method is best employed on May 7 and onwards. That's when you'll get access to the side quest "Beware the Clingy Ex-boyfriend!" This leads to a Mementos boss you can fight without any prerequisites (and without much need to level up).

The most important thing about this boss, however, is that it's susceptible to the Confusion status effect inflicted by skills like Pulinpa. Not all bosses in Persona 5 Royal have this weakness, so it's important to know which ones you're fighting before you begin preparations! Said preparations mostly involve recruiting the onion-headed Persona, Onmoraki. Then juice it up to unlock the skills Pulinpa and Confuse Boost (which it acquires at level 15). This is the earliest, easiest to acquire Persona with that combination of skills. And the ex-boyfriend is the earliest boss susceptible to the attack. Both are vital to the money farm strategy near the beginning of the game.

At this point, you're basically good to go — although there are several ways to make the process quicker and more profitable, which we'll get into below. For now, though, let's break down the basics.

In Persona, and indeed in most Shin Megami Tensei games, the Confusion status effect is fairly unique. It often causes foes to throw away items and quantities of money. This effect lasts for three turns, starting when it was cast, meaning you string it together by casting Pulinpa and then defending for two turns. Then cast Pulinpa to reapply the Confusion (you cannot afflict an enemy with an ailment it already has, so you have to wait). Do this enough times and the enemy will typically run away scared… and, well, confused.

That's not good enough for us. We're here for big cash money. That's why we go after bosses. These suckers are too proud to back down, even when faced with endless hallucinations and mind-altering spells. You can continuously confuse them, siphoning their funds and items, without any risk to yourself.

Once you've got the rhythm down (and something to keep you sane while you spam the same two moves over and over again) you can worry about optimizing. Bumping the difficulty down to easy is an obvious choice. Fusion is another. You can transform Onmaraki into anything you like, so long as you carry over Pulinpa and Confuse Boost. Although your focus should be on finding the Persona with as much Luck as possible. We're not too worried about increasing the odds that Pulinpa will work! That's what Confuse Boost is for. No, the extra Luck is for extra cash — since enemies drop more money as the stat gets higher.

More powerful Personas will naturally have more Luck. But you can goose the odds further by going to the fusion confirmation screen, backing out, and checking the results again. The stat bonuses you give a Persona randomize and re-randomize every time you preview the results. That means you can keep retrying until you get a Luck level you're happy with. A good rule of thumb is to wait until the stat bonuses only apply to two or three attributes (condensing the total bonus). To get the most Luck, you're going to need a lot of… luck.

The last, but potentially most important step in all this is to visit Tae Takemi: the Death Arcana Confidant. Not only is it worth hanging out with her because she's a hot goth doctor that calls you a rodent, she also sells you items. At Confidant level five, these will include the almighty "SP Adhesive" equipment. Buying and wearing one will give you regenerating SP every turn — including the turns on which you defend while the enemy is confused.

Together with Pulinpa, Confuse Boost, an SP Adhesive, and the proper turn order, you can befuddle a boss indefinitely. You cannot be stopped. You cannot be reasoned with or bribed. You just accrue riches for as long as your patience and the tendons in your right hand hold out (I wasn't joking about bringing a book). You are a strange, insatiable mass of ever-growing piles of yen in the form of a silent, teenage boy. Congratulations!

In all seriousness, this method only gets more effective as you progress. Higher level bosses drop more cash, while higher level Personasforce them to spit up even more. Plus you can get the most powerful SP Adhesive from Takemi once you reach rank seven with the good doctor. That, in turn, costs more yen, but you'll have plenty with this Persona 5 Royal money farming technique. Happy hunting and good luck out there, you money grubbing delinquents!
